News from Jesuit Colleges & Universities
Loyola University New Orleans announced plans to rename its largest residence hall after its first Black graduate; Loyola University Maryland received a $100K gift from the Kahlert Foundation to support mental health counseling; Rockhurst University announced a new Wisdom Core Curriculum, to be launched this fall; and Seattle University recently hosted the Ambassador of Japan to the United States on campus.
Research Updates: A Creighton University professor is part of a team that recently discovered a 150,000 year old tooth from the ancient Denisovan population of Laos; a Marquette University researcher received a $1.45M grant from NIH to study the effects of aging on oral health; and a research team led by Saint Louis University in partnership with two pharmaceutical companies has found a new treatment for a rare, genetic liver disease.
Also of note: a group of Saint Joseph's University students and faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy participated in "Disassembly Day" to disassemble prosthetic parts for reassembly for patients in need across the world, and a team of biology students and faculty from the University of Detroit Mercy recently gave free lessons in fruit fly science to local kindergarten students in Detroit.
Finally, the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies at Boston College has published a new book, Ever to Excel: A History of Boston College, by University Historian James M. O'Toole. From the Institute's website: "Ever to Excel describes [BC's] transformation from a small commuter undergraduate college to a comprehensive modern American university." Click here to learn more.
