This week, two faculty from Santa Clara University, Julie Hanlon Rubio and Paul J. Schutz, published a report, "Beyond 'Bad Apples': Understanding Clergy Perpetrated Sexual Abuse as a Structural Problem & Cultivating Strategies for Change." The report was funded through the initiative, Taking Responsibility: Jesuit Educational Institutions Confront the Causes and Legacy of Sexual Abuse, with support from Fordham University. The University of Detroit Mercy's new president, Dr. Donald Taylor, shared his plans to continue Detroit Mercy's growth as the largest Catholic institution in Michigan with The Detroit News; Saint Louis University exceeded its capital campaign goal by more than $100M; Saint Peter's University announced plans for future collaborations with the Division of Veterans Affairs within Jersey City’s Department of Health and Human Services; the College of the Holy Cross received a $250K grant to digitize components of the Deaf Catholic Archives; the Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies at Fairfield University was named a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing; and Seattle University entered a partnership to create the La Luz Scholarship program for first-generation college students.
This fall, Boston College's Woods College of Advancing Studies will debut a new B.A. in Cybersecurity program; Georgetown University will create a student hub on the ground floor of its historic Healy Hall; and Marquette University will present an exhibit on manuscripts by author J.R.R. Tolkien. Looking ahead to Spring 2023, Loyola University New Orleans will launch an accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program.
