Big Thompson Watershed Coalition’s “Trek the Thompson” Watershed Poker Run Event
We are hosting our first ever Trek the Thompson poker run community event this Saturday, October 2nd, at Fairgrounds Park in Loveland, CO from 9am-Noon!
Trek the Thompson is a FREE, family friendly, educational fundraiser where everyone has a chance to win great prizes. The funds raised at the event will support our continued work in the watershed, which includes post-wildfire recovery and landowner assistance, river and stream restoration projects, forest management to reduce the risk of future wildfire, as well as education and outreach to the community.
The event will feature a 3-mile trek along the Big Thompson River starting at Fairgrounds Park and wrapping around River’s Edge Natural Area. Education stations will be placed along the 3 miles where attendees can stop to learn about the Big Thompson River, local wildlife, fishing, water transport and storage in CO, city trails, and meet local organizations working to keep the watershed healthy for all. There will also be a special kids station to collect and learn about macroinvertebrates!
So, what about the prizes? At each of the education stations, attendees will collect a poker card. At the end of their trek, they can choose their best 5-card hand to play. Winning poker hands will receive locally donated prizes, including a one night stay at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, packages of 2 seats on the glass to an Eagles hockey game of your choice, tickets to Mannheim Steamroller at the Budweiser Event Center, handmade Raku pottery, a fly rod and reel, gift certificates to local restaurants and bars, and much more!
On top of all that, a ticket purchase comes with a free water bottle or a re-useable canvas tote, there will be snacks, refreshments, and live music from local artist Kate Burgess, and our sponsors are setting up their own booths to talk with attendees and give away some swag.
