Are You on Cruise Control?
One of more popular and well-known verses in the book of Proverbs comes from the third chapter. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. This passage is full of admonishment to all of us on how we should seek guidance and direction. Unfortunately, we can be prone to sit back and be passive in our direction seeking. This thought brings to mind a recent news story that highlights that very thing. Multiple news sources reported that due to some sort of glitch in Google Maps, approximately 100 cars ended up on a muddy, unpaved road as a “shortcut” to avoid a busy main road in the Denver area. In spite of what the drivers were seeing outside the front windshield, they continued to listen to the friendly electronic voice that was giving them directions. One of the drivers is quoted saying, ”It’s not always best to rely on technology. And it’s OK to wait.” You can read the story in its entirety if you click Shortcut.
This does cause one to think. How are you doing with your on-board navigation with the Lord? Have you “defaulted” to a passive cruise control mentality where you are content to “drive” with very little divine guidance and direction? Do you day after day get in a cruise control scenario because of leaning on your own understanding? This passage has such a powerful promise from the Lord. If we trust and acknowledge and limit leaning in our own capability…He will direct us!! In His graciousness and goodness, He will be the true on-board navigator. No more “muddy roads” or questionable “shortcuts”, but rather divine direction and a contentment that He will take care of you.
(Warning: while He will direct you, that’s not to say it will be places that are comfortable to you. You may find yourself doing things and going places out of your comfort zone. However, He is there with you, and in control!!)
