"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jeremiah 29:11

A special greeting from cool, wet Iowa.  It’s been a while since we have experienced an Iowa spring.  While it takes a bit of getting use to the climate change, there is no place like home…

A Look into our Lives

          A Chapter Closes

On Sunday, April 21st, we made our announcement official before the Consolation Center of Haiti (CCH) church.  With every eye fixed and every body giving serious attention (even the youngest ones), Eddy Constant, the director of CCH called us up to the front.  He explained the life of a missionary.  He described how missionaries come and go.  He shared some very humbling words of encouragement about us and finished by sharing that it was time for Les & Catherine to move on to their next assignment from the Lord God.  It was like we were standing there in a dream, but it was very real.

Present were children from Bamboula who Laborers With Christ (LWC) had sponsored for school.  They got up to sing a special and presented us with gifts and thank you kisses.  Also present were the people from the Center of Help who came to say their farewells.

For the last 7 years and 7 months, almost to the day, we have been serving in Haiti.  Words can’t really express our emotions, our appreciation, and the response we received from our Haitian friends as we stood in front of the church on our last Sunday in Haiti.  Our hope when coming to Haiti, was that God could use us to help with agricultural self-sustainability, nutritional education, function in a small way as administrative helpers for the Consolation Center of Haiti (CCH), and most importantly model a Christian lifestyle and make an impact on young lives to seek after the Jesus, who we served.  We are grateful to be able to say, that by the grace of God, all these objectives were accomplished.

Our hope was to “work ourselves out of a job”, and while there is likely going to be some adjustment due to our absence.  We truly have a sense that  things are in place to allow Haitians to “step-up” and begin to function in those capacities at strong levels of competence.   Again, God seemed to orchestrate this possibility over time through several circumstances as only He can do, and for that we are very thankful.

          A New Chapter begins

For the next several months, we will be in a transition phase as we prepare for our next field of interest.

Serious Life Events Snapshots:

A Milestone Reached Thanks To You

April of 2019 marks our 15th anniversary of Les leaving his job, stepping out in faith, and serving on the mission field as a family.  We are overwhelmed with how God has led and provided over the last 15 years.  It is such a privilege and honor to serve and be ambassadors for Him.  If someone would have asked us, “What do you expect with this step?”  We would have never envisioned the places we have served, the people we have gotten to know, or the amazing things we have witnessed accomplished by the mighty hand of God.

We know none of this would have been possible, if not for friends, family, and churches who have sensed a leading from God to partner with us financially.  Thank you so much for your partnership.  It is our hope that you see God’s mighty hand do amazing things in your life.  That He would graciously bless you as you have so freely blessed others!!

We are so blessed and excited to give you a tour of the many project faces of Faith Agriculture (FA) a project of Laborers With Christ (LWC).  We are leaving this project in good, capable hands.  We are encouraged that the orphans will have nutritious food to eat and have enough to share with the community through their produce boutique called "Point de Venue English Corner Store."

Please watch all of the "On the Field" series to get a closer idea of the different areas.

            Blessings in Disguise

This nudging was taken from the book, The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn.  It’s titled The Soldiers of Darkness and Light.

"He led me across a large valley and toward a mountain on its other side. "Imagine, said the teacher," you had to make your way across this valley, to get to that mountain as fast as you could. But the valley is filled with soldiers, half of them dressed in white and half in black.  As you try to make your way across the valley, you discover the soldiers in white are there to help you across and to get you to the mountain as quickly as possible. But you soon discover that the soldiers in black are there for the opposite purpose. They battle the soldiers in white, resisting every step of advance. Finally, after a long and arduous battle, you make it across to the base of the mountain on the other side. The battle is over. It is then that you notice a strange thing - the soldiers in black begin removing their outer garments to reveal garments of white underneath.  The soldiers in black were really soldiers in white.  The soldiers were all on the same side.  And the ultimate goal wasn't to bring you to the other side as fast as possible but to get you there at the exact right time.  And for that to happen, both the soldiers in white and the soldiers in black had to fulfill their mission.  And though it looked like war, both sides were actually working together for your good.  So then which side was against you?"

"Neither," I said.  "Both were battling for my benefit."

"Exactly," he said.  "And so it is written in the Book of Romans that 'God causes all things to worker together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.'  So if you love God and belong to Him, He will work all things in your life together for good, the good and the evil, the beautiful and the ugly, the joyous and the sorrowful, the problems and he triumphs, all for your blessing and good.  Now if both the good and the bad are working for your good, then in the end, was there any bad?"
"No, if even the bad is working for my good, then it's ultimately good."

"And so for the child of God, for you, there are only two realities...blessings...and blessings in disguise.  Sometimes the blessings are very well disguised, but they remain blessings nevertheless.  Hold on to this.  And learn to see and believe through the disguises.  And remember, it only looks like a battlefield.  But in the end, you will see it as it always was, a field of blessings where even your darkest enemies -- your greatest adversities -- were, in the end, your blessings in disguise."

As we read this devotion, we couldn’t help but wonder how our attitude and outlook would look if when we experienced trials, road blocks, or momentary discouragements, we chose to not dwell on those things themselves, but rather blessings in disguise??  Scripture gives us such a powerful promise to stand upon… Romans 8:28  "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."  Thank you Lord!!

Seeds of Faith Project - giving a gift that grows

If you want to sow into the lives of others in a practical way, the Seeds of Faith project through Laborers With Christ is a great way.  It is a form of giving that keeps on giving to the less fortunate.  In Nigeria, the availability of seeds is almost nonexistent.  We are now currently collecting seeds for Nigeria and Haiti.

What kind of seeds would make this type of investment even greater?  Ideally, heirloom seed is by far the best type of seed, partly due to the multi-generational capability.  Heirloom seeds are capable of producing seeds that will produce seedlings just like the parent plant, and since we train on how to collect seed for the next growing season, it's an ideal fit.. They are also more consistent in the production of produce, and usually a better quality.  However, we'll gladly accept heirloom or hybrid seed.  If you desire to not do the shopping, but want to send a donation, that's not a problem, as we can order the needed seed and get that sent.
If you would like to order the seeds yourself, here are a couple link:  Seed Savers Exchange or Heirloom Seeds
Thanks so much for your willingness to invest in the lives of others!!

One Starfish At A Time

For almost six years we have shared faces of individuals who God has placed in our path.  We call these people the “starfish” He has allowed us to impact with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.  Some were old, most were young, but all had a story to share, and a level of need Laborers With Christ was able to help meet in some fashion.

As we leave Haiti and move on to new opportunities, we are sure God will continue to put “starfish” in our path, but for a season we will suspend this monthly portion of the newsletter.
However, we have a question for you.  Who is that “starfish” God wants you to impact?  What person or people around you could really use you to show the love and gospel of Jesus Christ?  We challenge you to be that person who picks up a “starfish” and say’s, “I made a difference to that one.”

You have more influencing power than you think!

We all eat with our eyes and the FDA and the food manufacturers know this.  If you are interested in how to liven up foods for celebrations in your life naturally, I hope you will join me as we take a look at the FDA’s approved food color list, the problems associated with it, and explore natural possibilities.
