IBAC: UPDATE
Keeping Business Flying Around The World
For The Industry, By The Industry

SEPTEMBER 2020

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

Kurt Edwards

It seems that summer has passed, and a familiar rhythm of life has returned in the form of fall conferences and meetings.  Perhaps because the pandemic forced many meetings in the spring to be postponed, we are now facing a wave of them in virtual form in September.  A key theme to this month’s conferences is the environment, in particular reducing aviation’s carbon emissions.

From 8 through 11 September, ICAO is holding the virtual Stocktaking Seminar on Aviation CO2 Reductions.  It will feature speakers from countries and organizations around the world, explaining the need to reduce aviation carbon emissions and highlighting a multitude of approaches, including technology, operations, and sustainable aviation fuels.  IBAC, for the Business Aviation Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), will represent the business aviation industry on an innovation and implementation panel focusing on our sector’s efforts to encourage the production and use of SAF. See the related press release here that went out to the industry last week.

On 14 and 15 September, the Business Aviation SAF Coalition will hold the first ever Business Aviation Sustainability Summit focused in particular on SAF.  Entitled “Priming the Pump: How Far, How Fast Can We Go?”, it will feature speakers from organizations all along the business aviation value chain, including OEMs, fuel producers, providers/FBOs, operators, and policy makers.  It is free to attend; register at this link

And on 29-30 September, the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), of which IBAC is a member, will hold the Global Sustainable Aviation Forum 2020.  The virtual forum covers a wider range of sustainability matters regarding aviation efforts to reduce its environmental footprint as well as the industry’s contributions to societal sustainability.  For more information and registration, please go to this link.

Earlier last month the SAF Coalition also released the second edition of the SAF Guide, titled, Fueling the Future as an educational and informational resource about the practicalities of SAF development, industry adoption, and pending expansion of supply and use, primarily from the perspectives of the business aviation community.

  • IBAC continues to participate in the CAPSCA forum, where aviation and public-health officials collaborate to find ways to facilitate a return to regular operations in the air transport system.
