Queensland Youth Music Awards 2016
Thank you for your enthusiastic participation!
Wow! What an incredible QYMA season for 2016! We were delighted to have 4,000 young people involved over 12 huge nights!
This was an exciting and massive effort, and we were very appreciative for the support from our donors, adjudicators, volunteer crew and for the venues who hosted us from 4 May - 1 June.
This year's competition was one of the biggest QYMA has ever seen, and our adjudicators were incredibly impressed by the high quality of music presented by all choirs and instrumental ensembles.
We feel it has set a fantastic standard for next year, which marks the 50th annual contest!
Over the past 50 years, the competition has evolved, operating for 16 years as The Pine Rivers Music Contest for Primary and Secondary Schools and prior to that as a Talent Quest run by Ashgrove/The Gap Methodist Churches, to now be managed by Voices of Birralee.
We look forward to celebrating QYMA's 50 year journey next year, and how, while it has changed format over the years, and its name, it has remained true to its participants, providing a friendly and high quality contest, enjoyable for all involved.
We invite you to start thinking about next year's competition. It will be held in May 2017 with entries opening from 16 January.
Also looking to next year, we invite local businesses or groups to get involved, with lots of sponsorship opportunities to be a part of this community event. If you would like to be involved, please email us or phone 07 3367 1001.
Bring on QYMA's 50th year!
Until next time...

"Last week two of our choirs performed in Section 21 of the Queensland Youth Music Awards and we were honoured by the experience... our Show Choir received a Silver Award and our Vocal Harmony received a Gold and third place.
"Our students were overwhelmed by the standard of choirs in the section. It is exciting to see the wonderful choral work happening in Brisbane schools and the passion with which these young people sing. It was a wonderful learning experience for our choirs."
- Tamara Luski, Choral Co-ordinator, MacGregor State High School

"QYMA was an amazing experience for both the Girls’ Choir and the Junior Choir. The other school choirs were outstanding, and we enjoyed watching their performances. Our results were amazing, and we were really proud to have accomplished Gold.
"We would like to say thank you to the judges, audience, conductors and the parents for their efforts. It made the night exciting and very enjoyable."
- The Gap State School students.
