Europe highlights and upcoming concerts!

What an amazing month it has been for the team at Birralee!

Thank you everyone for your support while myself, Paul Holley, Jenny Moon, and an entourage of wonderful helpers took 72 choristers on a journey through Europe!

Hopefully you caught some of our live concerts via Facebook (thanks to our parent / on-tour videographer Tony Forbes), with the tour culminating in a performance at the Australian National Memorial, on Anzac Day. You can watch the service here, with some pre-service performances published on our Facebook page.

In other news, April and May have been busy months with a group of our Birralee Singers performing at Basement Jaxx at QPAC, guided by Lou Wall. Our Birralee Blokes, conducted by Paul Holley, performed at the
St Laurence's Brotherhood Anniversary Concert, while Resonance of Birralee showcased their new transition into two ensembles, at their first concert of the year, Next Gen.

Read on for information about upcoming events and all the best to our choirs and teams involved.

Kind regards,

CHORISTER HIGHLIGHTS
Evelyn Dekker (BBV) recently travelled to Singapore to present her research at the International Students Science Fair, which was attended by more than 100 student representatives from 18 countries. The five day trip consisted of presentations and lectures on the research each student had completed, and we're proud to announce that Evelyn won the prize for Biomedical and Health Science for her research. Congratulations Evelyn!
Elsie Bow (Birralee Kids) led the singing of the New Zealand national anthem in the Maori language at the Anzac Day commemoration at OLA Catholic Primary School, Enoggera last month.
Resonance of Birralee celebrated its evolution last week with a concert conducted by Paul Holley OAM and Peter Ingram. Well done to all choristers from the evolved two ensembles. You sounded beautiful!
Congrats to the group of Birralee Singers who performed with Basement Jaxx at QPAC in April!
EUROPE TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Our choristers from BBV and Birralee Blokes did us proud in their Europe Tour. Here's some of their thoughts on being involved in Anzac Day at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.

“The significance of Anzac Day became more evident to me through attending the dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux. Seeing the rows of head stones and walls of missing people really showed me the sacrifice which the Australian soldiers made. Sitting there at dawn in the freezing cold was an experience which I am very glad I had.”- Georgia Bond
"Singing in the cold bitter air at the dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux I experienced a small insight to some of the conditions that the soldiers had to endure in the war. Leading up to Anzac Day we were privileged to visit several War Memorials to learn that soldiers as young as 15 were killed. That’s when it really affected me knowing that potentially children from our choir could have been fighting and died. At my age I have not experienced anything like what the young soldiers went through and it saddens me to know many would never get to experience what my young life has so far." - Emily Moore
"Watching the sun rise while listening to the incredible stories of the soldiers and the songs was an amazing, moving and unforgettable experience that I am so blessed to have been a part of. The last song we sang, You Me and The Wide Open Sky made me sadder than ever because while singing about my beautiful home I was looking out to the graves of so many men who never got to go home, they instead died for our freedom, to them I am eternally grateful." - Grace Beauchamp
"There are no words to describe the way I felt when I saw the hundreds of names at the memorial, and knowing that they were only a fraction of those who gave their lives. I considered it an honour to represent them and Australia on their day of remembrance." - Elliott Beauchamp

"The Anzac experience can really only be described as magic. Although it was a sombre occasion in a place marked by death, it was full of joy and life. I felt the cold and the rain, but more than that, I felt the honour of honouring my country and those brave soldiers. Such an incredible experience I will surely never forget." - Jess Ruhle
