SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL
FREE ART ACTIVITIES FOR LOCAL YOUTH
Funded by the Allegany Arts Association, this year we were fortunate to spend time drawing, painting, assembling, and creating land art and upcycled art with local youth during the Summer Arts Festival Activities in July.
The Allegany Arts Association provides FREE activities for local youth during February, Spring and Summer Breaks.
AAA Programming and services are made possible by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature, administered by the Cattaraugus County Council on the Arts, and by subscriptions and donations from local residents and organizations.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Allegany Arts Association team of instructors or know someone who is, please contact Molly at: mwpike11@gmail.com or call 585-466-6210 or 585-268-5710
and leave a message.
PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS
SUPPORTS YOUR WELLNESS

(Photo: Still Standing; Frame 5)
This and five other mixed-media shadow boxes that make up Still Standing,
from the SheilaLynnK Art Facing Phases Series,
are currently on display at the
Rise Above Holistic Wellness Center
161 1/2 N. Main Street Wellsville, NY

Still Standing is a photographic documentation of the cyclic nature of the chronic pain experience. Each frame demonstrates the artist's mixed media interpretation of a season in the cycle of coping with chronic pain. The work illustrates the balance that may be found in adaptation. The paper sculpture process was used as part of the artist's personal healing process to recover fine motor skills from May to September 2009. Each photograph displayed in the series is an original photo taken by the artist on the Genesee Valley Greenway in Belfast, NY. Each photo represents a stopping point as the artist recovered coordination and a commitment to walk independently.
This work is intended for display in pain management and rehabilitation clinics.
THE FULL STORY AND MORE DETAILS ABOUT Still Standing can be found here.

In 2009 I established BOFA, in loving memory of Amanda, to increase awareness and participation in the Creative Arts in the Belfast, NY Area.
When medical issues required me to re-locate (2010) closer to the Wellsville physical rehabilitation services, Kathy Garrison, our events coordinator, stepped up to support and manage the BOFA mission.
As Kathy is currently recovering from an injury, the regularly scheduled Unfinished Objects Day on August 29th has been cancelled.
Please join us for the next one

PROJECTS I LOVE TO FOLLOW

If you haven’t gotten yours yet,
do it before September 1st
at the early bird price and let’s use our dollars to protect what we can now!
In every way, let’s take action and create change for the planet.

" It’s always printed in Portland, OR, always on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified recycled paper. Always vegetable based inks. Never the cheapest way, but always the way of my heart and my stand.
I still wrestle with the fact that there’s not hemp paper options (yet!) and that making a thing involves a footprint period, but I take my role as a creator very seriously in the scheme of planetary, environmental, and social justice. I fill the pages with love, hope and inspiration and have a zero plastic policy in everything I make.May we all do better in all the ways we can 💚"
