"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone."

Isaiah 9:2 (ESV)

"The Word became flesh and blood,
    and moved into the neighborhood."

John 1:14 (The Message)

As we once again revisit the story of Jesus the Christ and his Incarnation at Christmas, here's a special edition of The Griffin Gazette with pictures and videos capturing the songs and spirit of our school. In addition, be sure to watch newly-posted clips from our recent Schola Cantorum concert and Elementary recitation earlier this month. Enjoy!
Students sing "The First Noel" to begin our annual elementary ornament exchange.
Members of our 4th-6th choir sang "Pass the Advent Light" to begin our annual Advent Feast.
Pre-K through 12th grades, along with our staff, sing "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" as part of our annual Advent Feast.
Members of our 8th grade choir, along with choir director Heidi Hornung, treat our office staff to a joyful rendition of "Good Christian Men, Rejoice." They and the rest of our secondary students also caroled at four different elderly care homes.
Megan and I, as well as our recently-expanded family, thank you for the privilege of being at Petra. After three-and-a-half years now, with two Petra graduates (three, counting new son-in-law Bruce Clark) and two still to go, we love our school and very much see and believe in the fruit of its mission:

"Recognizing our need for God's grace, Petra Academy strives to awaken love and wonder in our students by teaching them to observe with humility, reason with logic, and articulate with charity, for the flourishing of humanity and the renown of Jesus the Christ."

As you celebrate Christmas and as 2018 comes to a close, please consider Petra Academy as part of your year-end charitable giving. Will you help us raise $30,000 by December 31, and another $100,000 by July 31 to help cover our budget?
     As of today, we've seen $6,025 come in - a good start, but a ways to go to meet our $30,000 goal. Read my full letter for plenty of reasons to lend such support, then give online, by stock transfer, or by check (made out to Petra Academy). Thank you for your prayerful generosity, and we'll see you in 2019. Merry Christmas!
(l to r): Chloe, freshman at MSU, undecided; Katie, sophomore at Petra; Bruce, Petra alum (2017) and sophomore at MSU, computer science; Maddie, Petra alum (2017) and sophomore at MSU, elementary education; Megan, Petra 1st grade teacher; Craig, Petra headmaster; Millie, freshman at Petra.
Recognizing our need for God's grace, Petra Academy strives to awaken love and wonder in our students by teaching them to observe with humility, think with reason, and articulate with charity for the flourishing of humanity and the renown of Jesus the Christ.
