Current Giving Opportunities

As we continue to seek to grow God’s kingdom through Messiah ministries we want to help pass on any relevant information or opportunities that we believe would be helpful. Below are some current, time-sensitive opportunities that we want to ensure everyone from our Messiah family knows about:

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

Are you 70 ½ or older? Have an IRA (or 403b or 401k)? Are you currently gifting to Messiah via check or would like to start gifting?

Each year, those that qualify can gift directly from an IRA to Messiah via a QCD and avoid taxes on that distribution.

QCD’s are a very impactful opportunity and can result in significant tax savings. Please reach out to our Development Director Andy Greer (link to my email) to receive further information and learn more about eligibility.

Cares Act - Charitable Contribution Change for 2020

In 2020, Americans who contribute to churches can add up to $300 of cash contributions to their standard deduction.

For those that itemize or would like to itemize to maximize your 2020 deduction the Cares Act changes limitations. For individuals who itemize deductions, the 60% of adjusted gross income limitation for cash contributions is suspended for 2020.

This could provide significant opportunities for tax savings but must be done in 2020. As always let us know if you have any questions or we can help connect you with educational materials or other resources.

A Financial Report from Erik Borgmeyer

Sorry we missed the financial email last week.  We had a delivery of new multi-function copiers on Thursday and spent the day getting them up and running for the staff. Because of a ministerial discount that is now available, we were able to lease 3 machines for significantly less than our last lease, which was for only 2 machines.  Just another way we're carefully watching our spending and looking for ways to maximize the dollars that are contributed to Messiah Lutheran Ministries.

We're halfway through October, and here's a brief financial report:

Tithes and offerings for the first two weeks are almost $95,000.  We budgeted $185,00 for the month, so we're 50% of the way done with the month and we have received about 51% of what we need. There has been a trend developing over the past few months where giving tapers off later in the month. If that continues, we'll fall short of our giving budget for October.

We've received under $8,000 in gifts toward the Forward in Faith campaign in October.  Our campaign expenses for this time period were over $42,000.  We're still encouraging everyone to fulfill their pledges for the campaign, or make a donation toward it if you haven't been able to so far.

To God Alone Be All The Glory!
