2016 Asian American Exit Poll and Poll Monitoring
Tuesday, November 8, 2016
In past elections, Asian Americans have faced a series of barriers in exercising their right to vote, including segregated “Asian” voting lines. When the news media reported on election results, Asian Americans were overlooked. In response, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) has conducted a non-partisan survey of Asian American voters to document Asian American voting patterns and document instances of anti-Asian voter disenfranchisement. AALDEF has monitored the elections for compliance with the federal Voting Rights Act, which mandates bilingual ballots and forbids anti-Asian voter discrimination.
We need your help. In the 2012 elections, 850 volunteers polled 9,096 Asian American voters in 14 states and Washington, DC. Volunteers work in 3-hour shifts. There will be a one-hour training session for all volunteers in October (90 minutes for CLE credits). All volunteers must be non-partisan during the time that they help. Complete the form at www.aaldef.net. Thank you!
For more information, contact: AALDEF Democracy Program Director Jerry Vattamala or Voting Rights Organizer Iris Zalun at 800-966-5946 orvotingrights@aaldef.org.

Oct. 7 - Jung Foundation Public Interest Scholarships to NAPABA 2016 Convention in San Diego
|
|
Since 2013, the Charles & Melita Jung Foundation (Jung Foundation) has sponsored public interest scholarships to the NAPABA Convention. This year, the Jung Foundation is sponsoring three public interest attorney scholarships to the 2016 Convention in San Diego. The scholarships are intended to encourage and make it easier for public interest attorneys to participate in NAPABA.
The award consists of the following: (1) Flight: the Jung Foundation will purchase for the recipient a domestic round trip ticket to San Diego, CA on Southwest Airlines; (2) Registration Fee: conference registration fee reimbursement at the NAPABA member public interest member rate (register by August 26 at midnight ET for the Early Bird Rate, but no later than October 21, 2015); and for one of the three recipients (3) Hotel Stay: reimbursement for a 3-night stay at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel.
Preference will be given to those who also apply for a NAPABA Convention Scholarship and reimbursements will be net of any other scholarships received. All U.S.-based public interest attorneys are invited to apply. The application deadline is October 7, 2016 (but the scholarships will be considered on a rolling basis beginning 8/19/16, so the earlier the better).
